The history of application development contains interesting decisions when it comes to the user-friendliness of the GUI. Many times other features were deemed more important than the evolved rich GUIs. The industry moved from terminals to windowing environments offering richer interactive and responsive GUIs. The early web changed this again to a GUI resembling that of the terminal rather than anything else. PlatForm’s aim is to get this back to the rich interaction of the desktop.
PlatForm includes a set of components (aka widgets, controls, UI elements) with rich interaction. These components can be combined to form an application. From the direct interaction of clicking open a Tree component, to sorting columns in a datagrid, these features give full control of the application back to users. With TelePort and Ajax, data is loaded in the application when needed by the user. This keeps the total load time of the application within acceptable limits while creating and maintaining a highly responsive user interface.
PlatForm comes with two predefined skinsets that enable developers to create different application "looks" for users.
